The Berkshire

The Berkshire Golf Club is set in 470 acres of heathland just 9 miles from Windsor Castle and 15 miles from London Heathrow airport.

In 1926, Herbert Fowler was commissioned to design two 18 hole courses on the heathland which had originally been used by the British Army for manoeuvers. Opened in 1928, the courses were named the Red and Blue in recognition of their past use.

The courses are famed for their excellent playing surfaces all year round, glorious tree lined silky fairways and swathes of vibrant purple heather.

The two courses are of a similar length, the Red being 6379 yards and the Blue 6260 yards, and are both ranked in the Top 100 UK and Ireland Courses with the Red ranked 33rd by Golf World and 43rd by Golf Monthly and the Blue ranked 57 by both publications. The Red is perhaps better known due to its unique mix of 6 Par 3’s, 6 Par 4’s and 6 Par 5’s.

The Club is equally famed for its superb lunches taken in the traditional dining room, although it is possible to break your round with a simple lunch in the friendly snack bar, where breakfast is also available from 7.15 am.

The Club has hosted many amateur tournaments during the last 85 years and continues to hold The Berkshire Trophy, an annual 72 hole Medal competition won the past by, amongst others, Sir Nick Faldo, Sandy Lyle and former R & A Secretary Sir Michael Bonallack no less than 6 times.

The Club will host the English Amateur Championship in 2017.
