Kent Garden Tour

The county of Kent’s rich tradition and history of golf dates back to over a century ago .The ‘Garden of England’ is home to over 100 courses with such an array of styles.

Natural clusters of golf courses can be found around Kent’s main towns, all set against a backdrop of rich and varied culture, buildings of historic interest, bustling seaside towns and magnificent, inspiring gardens.

Knole Park Golf Club; Tight turf, huge trees and a rugged landscape mean that the 18 holes here are never dull. Course highlights include a rollercoaster 3rd and a dramatic downhill par-4 14th. This gem is unique and not just because it starts with a short hole. And all this in a deer park estate. Situated in 1000 acres of parkland, Knole Park Golf Club, open since 1924, features an 18 hole course designed by J. Abercromby, in consulation with James Braid. The course features some mature trees, and numerous well-placed bunkers, defending the greens, making for a challenging game.

For over 125 years golfers have enjoyed the beautiful wooded course and warm hospitality the Wildernesse Club has to offer.  Founded in 1890 the Club has a proud heritage and today is a private members' club which offers a very special place for both members and visitors to enjoy the game we love.

A fine, tight inland course recognised by The R&A as an Open Qualifying venue and a regular host for EGU and County events.  Originally laid out in 1890, the Professional Golfer appointed to design the initial layout is sadly unknown although James Braid, most famous for his creation of the King's and Queen's courses at Gleaneagles, made a number of design changes including the new Par 3 5th hole which came into play in 1929. It is heavily wooded with tree-lined fairways and is more than capable of defending itself against longer hitters with small and undulating greens. It is a course where both straight driving and attention to well-placed bunkers is essential.  Although it has few slopes and affords easy walking, it provides an entertaining battleground and examination for golfers of all abilities. At just over 6,500 yards the course is not long by modern standards and with the exception of two new holes created in 1969 (16th and 17th), has remained very much unchanged over the past 60 years. That it still remains difficult to beat par, despite changes in the modern game, is tribute to the original design that has for decades stood the test of time.

Hever Castle Golf Club; the 27 Hole Championship course and unique Clubhouse reside in a truly inspirational setting, bordering the counties of Kent, Surrrey and Sussex, within 250 acres of the historic Hever Castle Estate. Golf and Hospitality have been an integral part of the Estate's history and today's Club preserves the traditions and aims to deliver memorable experiences to all who visit.

Championship Course: Comprising the Kings and Queens nines, has been showcased on Sky Sports and has played host to many prestigious events. At a glance of the scorecard one of the longest holes in Britain, the 644 yard Par 5 seventeenth hole, certainly stands out, however the course boasts an array of stunning holes across its 7002 yard, par 72 layout.

As the oldest county in England, Kent boasts a plethora of visitor attractions from the magnificent Canterbury Cathedral, founded in AD 597, to the fascinating Dover Castle where you can experience life from Roman times to World War II. Other historic castles include Hever, Deal, Walmer and Rochester castles whilst the stunning gardens at Sissinghurst are world-famous. Meanwhile Kent’s coastline is ideal for walking and cycling and features seaside towns like Broadstairs, Charles Dickens’ favourite resort, and Margate, home to the Turner Contemporary Art Gallery.
