Founded in 1893, Woking Golf Club is the oldest of Surrey’s celebrated heathland courses and a pioneer in strategic golf course design. Located in Hook Heath, just outside Woking, the club is renowned for its fast-running fairways, purple heather, and intricately contoured greens that challenge golfers of all levels. The course was originally laid out by Tom Dunn and later refined by members John Low and Stuart Paton, whose innovative bunkering—particularly the centreline hazards on the 4th hole—helped revolutionise golf architecture.
Woking is consistently ranked among the top courses in England and is considered the most challenging of the “Three Ws,” alongside West Hill and Worplesdon. The club maintains a traditional atmosphere, favouring two-ball play and offering a warm welcome to members, visitors, and societies alike. Its clubhouse, nestled close to the 14th green, provides a charming setting that complements the course’s rich heritage.
For those seeking a classic English golf experience steeped in history and architectural significance, Woking Golf Club stands as a must-visit destination.
