Formby Golf Club is well known within the golfing community as one of the best venues along England’s famous Northwest Golf Coast. Its location seems almost handpicked – a good distance from the hustle and bustle but still easily accessible from surrounding areas. The club is steeped in history and has hosted many large events, most notable being; The Amateur Championship four times, the English Amateur Championship five times, The Brabazon Trophy four times, the most recent being in 2013, and The Curtis Cup in 2004. The club was founded in 1884 making it one of the oldest in the region and the iconic clubhouse is a sight to behold in itself offering stunning panoramic views over the course.

Formby Golf Course

With Willie Park, James Braid, Harry Colt and, more recently, Donald Steel have all played a part in designing the 18 holes at Formby Golf Club. Regularly featuring high in The UK’s Top 100, the golf course is of true championship links standard running through ancient sand dunes and mature pinewoods that line a combination of well-protected greens and undulating fairways.  Tactical bunkers sit in front of superbly kept greens that are a dream to putt on. Although the club doesn’t have the ‘Royal’ title like its three neighbouring clubs, it is certainly one of the prize jewels in England’s Northwest Golf Coast crown.

Our View

A true championship links course crafted by a number of the UK’s finest golf architects throughout its history. The courses pedigree is mirrored by the events it has hosted such as the Curtis Cup and a number of Amateur Championships.
