Described as a maritime heathland course, Aldeburgh oozes effortless charm and is a delightful place to play golf.

Founded way back in 1884, there are 27 holes at Aldeburgh, and whilst one course is clearly a Championship test, the 9 hole River course is a stern challenge and great fun to play in a stunning setting.

The Championship Course has no Par 5’s….at least, that’s what the scorecard says, but inside knowledge gained from the charismatic Secretary, suggests you would be well advised to treat 6 holes, long Par 4’s as either Par 4’s with the wind behind, or Par 5’s when you hitting into it. As there will always be a fifty split, it is therefore best to assume, for all but the longest of hitters, the course has three Par 5’s; much better for peace of mind!

The sandy soil on which the course is built facilitates a quick draining, fast running nature, and as such is always open for play, never requiring preferred lies or temporary greens.

Railway sleepers are a welcome sight on a golf course adding texture and interest to the course, and the Par 3 4th Hole is famous for its wrap around bunker.

Although only 6,603 yards, relatively short by modern standards, the course will require you to play almost every shot in your armoury. Woods, long irons, tricky approaches and delicate chips, and then wonderful greens; golf at its purest.

Mention has to be made of the wonderful Clubhouse and catering therein. A very special golf club.
