South Staffs Golf Club

Championship golf within your reach

Situated in Tettenhall, the leafy suburb of Wolverhampton, South Staffs was established in 1892 where the current layout was designed in 1908 by one of the greatest Open Champions, Harry Vardon and modified by other golfing luminaries such as: Harry Colt, James Braid and, more recently Donald Steel.

Considered by many to be one of the finest ‘tests of golf’ in the Midlands, South Staffs is set in mature picturesque parkland. The 6,587 yard, par 71 Championship course has a challenging layout with no fewer than six par four holes of over 400 yards from the medal tees, contributing to a standard scratch of 72. Combined with fast greens and tree-lined fairways the need for accuracy and touch around and on the greens provides an enjoyable test for all abilities.

The recent partnership with ‘Ledene’ at nearby Codsall Wood, the 18 hole, ‘play & play’ par 3 course, enables South Staffs to offer a range of innovative membership categories from novices to seasoned full seven-day members. This makes playing Championship golf within reach of everyone who wants to ‘Get into golf’. Also, with the launch of the new South Staffs Golf Academy by Ryder Cup star Peter Baker and Jeremy Nicholls, the development of junior golf has a bright future. Additionally, golf lessons can be given in the indoor swing clinic, or on the large driving range and practice area.

South Staffs clubhouse offers very comfortable surroundings including a lounge and spike bar, outside terrace, TV lounge (with Sky Sports), and dining at the newly re-furbished ‘Danescourt’, all of which enjoy panoramic views over the pourse and countryside beyond.

South Staffs welcomes all visitors from adhoc green fees to Corporate Golf Days and Golf Societies to Captains’ Away Days. Play and stay packages can be organised, where The Park House 4-star hotel in Shifnal, is recommended and located close to the world famous David Austin Roses Plant Centre and Cosford RAF Air Museum.
